Walking Paths

One of the project works were walking paths. In Tavastia we decided to measure several walking paths in Hämeenlinna area. We made project on small groups from different paths. The location of my project was near former Olympic park in Ahvenisto. In 1952 there were few olympic sports there during that time, inter alia swimming.

On other area was in Aulanko. Aulanko is a unique, nationally well-known culture and leisure destination in Hämeenlinna. In our town we have many nice jogging paths and nature paths.

We had up to date GPS equipment from school on our disposal. Precision of our measurements were threaten by high treetops, so careful choosing of points we took was vital. Winter frost biting our finger tips, we walked around the lake Ahvenisto through ski route. Lots of high slopes interfered with our work too. Many times we had our sky view completely blocked so it was almost impossible get any kind of results.

Then we transferred files to computer and used software named Arc GIS. We made different kind thematic maps. We had a map with area where path was and then we placed our measurements to the right place with coordinates.

Here we have a slitting/profile which indicates differences in altitude. It looks like this:

After all this we made posters from each of the paths.
