“Home” included the study of our region, its characteristics and problems. To investigate about air quality, we decided to study lichens. During the meeting in Caluso all the delegations went to the Environmental Education Centre “La polveriera” in Ivrea to see a presentation made by an expert about lichens and the Lichen Biodiversity Index for air quality and to examine many lichens on trees and under the microscope. Some days later we tried to make a little survey and to calculate the Index near the school in Caluso.
After the meeting the Italian students made a more detailed survey in different places in Caluso, calculate the
Index and compare their results with those of other surveys in Turin Province drawn by various publications. The results, shown as a PowerPoint presentation with explanation made by students, were shown during the final meeting. Students from the other schools did similar studies and all the results were presented in the Final Meeting in Hämeenlinna, Finland.
