September 24th , Wednesday Finally, after months of preparations and being eager for meeting, the moment of truth came.
It was sunny and warm autumn‘s evening when our friends from Greece, Germany, Italy and Finland began reaching a destination- Palanga. Each delegation arrived in different place and time. They were met cheerfully by Lithuanian teachers and hosts of the students. It was already a late evening when the last delegation arrived.
In the morning we all met in the small hall of Palanga senoji gymnasium. Principal of the school welcomed all the guests and wished a great and productive time together.
After the speech, each delegation shortly introduced themselves and began first presentations. Then we all had a walk round school. According to the colors of the name cards, students were separated into several groups and various ice-breaking activities were done, which helped to know each other better.
As the day was sunny and warm, we all went outside and had a nice guided tour in Palanga‘s botanical park. Afterwards we went to an open-air café for a barbecue. Everyone found what to do there : some were playing badminton, swinging, talking, rolling on the grass or just taking a walk around
In the early morning we were woken up by ‚cruel sound‘ of alarm –clock, what meant that we had to rush to the bus and drive to Klaipeda‘s sea port, where we had an excursion while being on the boat. When we got back, we went to an oldtown, where we were greeted by a friendly guide. She told us many interesting facts, stories, showed the most liked sculptures and places by local people.
After the tour around the famous Klaipeda‘s places we took ferry to Smiltyne, where we enjoyed dolphin show at dolphinarium and visited sea museum, where we could see many Baltic sea and exotic fishes, seashells, to take quizes, etc.
We were already tired, but happy and decided to take a rest by lying on the grass and sharing some bread (even that was good for exhausted ones!):D In the evening we got back to Palanga and suddenly some new energy for a party appeared! ;)
Time to take exercise! We took our bycicles and went to The Seaside Regional Park. Some of us even determined to try Baltic sea :) And it seemed to be very exciting idea. Then we got little picnic to bring back the energy, sat on the bicycles and came back to Palanga.
Rest of the day we had some free time. Some of us enjoyed themselves in a town‘s celebration, explored Palanga or simply had some relaxation at home. In the evening most of students went to Klaipeda‘s Akropolis to do some shopping, play bowling or ice-skating. When we got to the bus station to go to Palanga, one taxi driver told us, that there won‘t be any. We were lucky, that one express bus appeared. Somehow all of us (about 26) „packed“ into that little bus. We are still joking, that it was like „coming home in three floors of people“.
More sightseeing! This time we took some warm clothes and went to a boat trip from Minge – across Curonian Lagoon to Nida. While taking a boat we had some real seafaring lunch- chowder. In order not to get bored, we had some natural „shower“ – rain and strong wind. Wet but good-humoured we had a guided tour around Nida.
